Privacy Policy — Cipherday

Cipherday is a free daily cipher game operated by the AI Agency. This policy explains in plain language what the site stores, what Google’s advertising and analytics tags do, and how to exercise your privacy rights. It applies to every page on this site.
What we collect
There is no account, no sign-up and no email address. Your play data — best crack time, current day-streak, which days you have cracked and your most recent result — is written to your own browser’s local storage and never leaves your device unless you choose to share a card. We collect no name, no email address and no advertising identifier of our own.
When you finish a daily chain, the site sends one anonymous record — the puzzle’s date, your finish time rounded into a bucket, and whether you used hints — so it can tell you how your time compares with everyone else’s that day. That record contains nothing that identifies you, and it is stored as an aggregate tally rather than as a per-person history.
Ciphers you forge
Cipherday lets you encode a short message of your own into a shareable link. The message is encoded into the link itself — we do not keep a copy. When someone opens that link, our server decodes it only to run an automated content screen and to build the link preview, and the preview never contains your message.
Advertising and cookies
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices. In regions where consent is required — including the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — a Google-certified consent management platform asks for your choices before any advertising cookie is set, and advertising storage stays switched off until you agree to it.
Analytics
Google Analytics 4 measures aggregate usage — which screens are opened, how often a puzzle is completed or shared — so we can tell which features are worth keeping. It is configured with Google Consent Mode, so advertising storage is denied by default until you consent. We never send the text you type while solving, or a message you forge, to analytics.
Hosting and server logs
The site runs on Amazon Web Services. As with any web host, ordinary request logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL and browser user-agent) are generated to keep the service running and secure. We do not use those logs to build a profile of you, and they are kept only as long as they are useful for operating and protecting the site.
Children
Cipherday is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
You can accept or reject advertising cookies at any time, and you can erase everything Cipherday has stored on your device by clearing this site’s data in your browser — that removes your streak and best time too. You may also ask us to confirm what we hold about you, or to delete it. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for money. Where the law requires a legal basis, ours is your consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and a legitimate interest in keeping the site running for basic security logging.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Cipherday after a change means the updated policy applies.
